Aparicio Abella

Vicky Barranguet (born Sept. 10, 1973, Montevideo, Uruguay)

 

Studied at the Art Students League of New York, 1998-2006, with abstract masters Larry Poons, William Scharf and Frank O’Cain, where she received the Merit scholarship, judged by “The Frick Collection” curators, and exhibits at Lincloln Center, NY. She also studied with the wellknown Uruguayan artist, Clever Lara.

 

Today, she is considered one of the top artists from the new generation of Uruguayan painters, as stated in Uruguay’s major news magazine, in 2010. With exhibitions and private collections in Europe, Asia, North, Central and South America, her spontaneous and daring works, led to the creation of an open minded art approach, where she combines painting with other art forms. She created in 2005 the show: Painting Music, a live painting-music show, touring since then, in Argentina, Uruguay and across the USA, including venues as the University of California in San Diego, Skirball Center, NYU, New York University, and “El Museo del barrio” in New York. In 2006, she creates “vicky barranguet Artwear” , hand painted dre sses, presenting them in Uruguay’s Fashion Week '06, '07 y '08, collaborating with different designers. Her paintings currently inspire prints for wellknown designer, Jodi Arnold’s 2010 collection in New York City, recently featured in the New York Times.


In Sept. 2010 will be part of a panel discussion about the relation between music and painting, at the “Jazz Improvisation and the visual Impulse” conference, Philoctetes Center, NY. In Oct. 2010, will be part of the group show “La Conexion: Latin America / New York”, in Garnerville Art Center, NY. She is commisioned to do the mural for the “Sulpizio Family Cardiovascular Center”, California University in San Diego.


Galleries, exhibitions and private collections in Uruguay, Argentina, USA, Puerto Rico, Austria, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, China, Thailand, China and Japan. Commissions include works for: Nike, Adidas, Long Champ, University of California, Sadesa, and Grimoldi, among others.
